During the June 18 City Council Meeting, Mayor Kuntz proclaimed June 17-23, 2024, as Pollinator Week, underscoring Owatonna’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. This proclamation comes as a reminder of the city's 2019 resolution to become a Pollinator Friendly City.

In line with this resolution, Owatonna has embarked on several pivotal initiatives aimed at enhancing the city's biodiversity and supporting pollinators. The city has actively increased flowering habitats, providing essential resources for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators crucial for the ecosystem's health. A conscious effort has been made to limit the use of pesticides, protecting these vital species from harmful chemicals.

The community has been encouraged to play a role in this initiative by incorporating pollinator-friendly plants into their landscapes. Public buildings, parks, and schools have also joined this cause, planting native flowers and maintaining pollinator gardens.

Mayor Kuntz’s proclamation not only celebrates the city's achievements but also calls upon residents to continue supporting these efforts. As Pollinator Week unfolds, Owatonna looks forward to a future where its green spaces flourish and pollinators thrive.
