Owatonna High DECA Celebrates Civic Engagement
Owatonna’s Mayor proclaims ‘DECA Week’, showcasing the high school’s chapter strides in entrepreneurship and community service.
Marking a significant nod to the young entrepreneurs and leaders of tomorrow, Mayor Thomas Kuntz proclaimed November 27 to December 2 as ‘DECA Week’ in Owatonna, honoring the local chapter's contribution to community service and its role in shaping future professionals. The Owatonna High School’s DECA Chapter, standing 153 members strong, gathered in the City Council Chambers to witness this declaration—a symbolic gesture that recognizes their dedication to developing skills in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
DECA’s influence in the community extends beyond the classroom, exemplified by the chapter's recent philanthropic efforts. From crafting tie blankets for 'Beds for Kids' to raising funds for 'Rachel’s Light' during the high school’s Cash Drive week, these young adults have translated their DECA prowess into tangible actions that benefit those in need. Their unity and drive reflect DECA’s core values: providing real-world experience to high school students and nurturing their growth into sharp-minded and public-spirited citizens.
With eyes set on district competitions come January 5 and aspirations to make a mark at the state level, Owatonna’s DECA members are poised to demonstrate that their business acumen and community service go hand in hand. As they gear up for the competitive stage, the DECA Week serves as a reminder of their past achievements and guiding beacon for their future endeavors.
