Owatonna's ongoing infrastructure projects are making significant headway, bringing a wave of changes to the local roads and trails. At the center of this progress are the 2025 Street & Utility Project and the 18th Street SE Trail Extension, both crucial to enhancing the city's transportation network and accessibility.

The 2025 Street & Utility Project, led by Wencl Construction, has been progressing despite the challenges posed by unpredictable weather. This week, construction activities focused on the western leg of Linn Drive SW, ranging from Oakdale Street SW heading south. The project's core task is to upgrade watermains and sanitary services, essential components that lay the groundwork for improved infrastructure reliability. Looking ahead, efforts will shift to the eastern leg of Linn Drive, where approximately 300 feet of roadway are being prepared for base material application. This step is anticipated to ease access and improve road conditions, much to the relief of residents who have been patient with the disruptions caused by the construction.

Simultaneously, the 18th Street SE Trail Extension is taking shape under the supervision of Ulland Brothers. Since the start of construction on June 2nd, work has commenced on the pedestrian and bicycle trail that promises to offer a safer and more scenic route along both the south side of 18th Street SW and the north side of 18th Street SE. This week was marked by preparations for installing an underground stormwater system—a vital addition to support sustainable development and prevent flooding issues in the area.

The city has made access restrictions clear, promising to keep residents informed of any changes as construction advances. Local patience has been invaluable, underscoring the community's resilience in the face of development. As these projects continue to unfold, residents can look forward to enhanced mobility and infrastructure that align with the city's growth ambitions.
