The hallways of the Minnesota State Legislature have echoed with the voices of Owatonna's representatives, as city elected officials and staff actively participate in this year's legislative session. In a determined push to meet local government needs, Owatonna has not stood idly by. Meetings with Representative John Petersburg and Senator John Jasinski have taken place, underscored by Owatonna's presence at pivotal advocacy events such as City Day on the Hill and the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities Legislative Action Day.

March 7 marked Owatonna's assertion for support at the City Day on the Hill, where City Council member Nate Dotson and Mayor Thomas Kuntz joined other LMC members in bringing forth issues on housing, emergency services, and infrastructure. The audience at the event included Governor Walz and other legislative leaders, ensuring a direct discourse on urban challenges. Fast forward to March 20, and City Council member Kevin Raney, Mayor Kuntz, and City Administrator Kris Busse were discussing the crucial Local Government Aid program at the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities Legislative Action Day, advocating for equitable fiscal policies.

With the legislative session continuing through May 20, Owatonna's pursuit of strategic advocacy aimed at enhancing the community's quality of life is more robust than ever. By participating in these events, our officials are not only amplifying our city's needs but are also fostering a connection with state legislators that could prove to be beneficial for the long-term well-being and development of Owatonna.
