In the heart of Minnesota, six of Owatonna's finest firefighters sharpened their lifesaving skills at the renowned Minnesota Fire & Rescue School last weekend. Held by Safety & Security Consultation Specialists, this notable fire academy in Lake Crystal is synonymous with thorough, hands-on training for our state's bravest.

The highlight for our local team was the 'First Due Engine – Live Fire Training'. This is where the first engine's crew learns to work like a well-oiled machine. When arriving at an emergency, every second counts, and each decision is critical.

The training included mastering a technique known as VEIS. VEIS stands for Vent, Enter, Isolate, and Search, a life-saving strategy allowing firefighters to efficiently enter a burning structure through a window, find victims, and get them to safety with speed and care.

Our six local heroes tackled challenging simulations with eagerness and precision. They practiced how to control a window space—a potential lifeline for victims in a blaze. The efforts they put into this training symbolize their commitment to safeguarding our community.

Through the lens of the Owatonna Fire Department's Facebook photos, we can glimpse the intensity and focus of this vital training. These images capture the essence of team spirit and resolve that defines our first responders.

The courage shown by our firefighters in these rigorous classes is echoed in every call they respond to. It's in every home they protect and every life they work to save. Advancing their emergency response capability not only speaks of their dedication but also of their critical role in keeping Owatonna safe.
